Shipyard Golf was rated as one
of the finest layouts on the PGA Senior Tours, and was also the home of the
Hilton Head Seniors International from 1982 to 1984. This twenty-seven-hole
layout wanders through tall pines, magnolias, and moss-draped oaks.
In
addition to the beauty and character of the course, there are the many lagoons
and ponds that have to be negotiated. Accurate tee-shots and well-measured
approaches are a must. The greens themselves are large and bunkered nicely;
their rolling surfaces demand a delicate touch.
